Description: A hard to find commercially grown native, the Kentucky Coffee Tree is a great all around lesser known amazing tree for the urban yard. It gets its name from the leather seedpods that it produces that resemble coffee beans. It is a tough tree that can endure extreme drought and wet soils, clay soils, loamy soils, and city pollution. As a native tree this tree is especially important for the local ecology to help the pollinators, the birds, and the critters we share our world with outside in our yards. The tree has excellent form growing strong in a round or oval like shape.
Growing Considerations: This tree is tough. Its not going to be too picky about where you plant it. Be sure to give it plenty of room to grow big. It prefers full sun but will grow in part shade conditions to look more like a tree in the woods versus a perfectly formed dense canopy shade tree. It is tolerant of city pollution as well. As with ANY newly planted tree of this size, it is important that you water this tree during the first two years during any significant period of drought.
