Description: The Deodar Cedar may not be native, but that’s the only thing not to like about this evergreen tree that is native to the Himalayas. We chose this addition in order to add more evergreen variety. The Deodar Cedar is an absolutely interesting and beautiful tree to watch grow. The new growth is often chartreuse in color against dark green needles. The needles of this tree are soft and not prickly. This tree has the propensity to become huge. This tree is an excellent choice for urban settings due to its hardiness, its strength, and its year-round shade and interest that it provides. This tree would be an excellent choice for modern architecture styles.
Growing Considerations: The Deodar Cedar is a tough evergreen tree that can tolerate most any soil type. It is adept to moist and dry conditions and doesn’t care if it is next to hot concrete and asphalt. Do be mindful of the space it has to grow as the tree will eventually become large. Lower branches can be pruned to make it less obstructive as it grows up and overhead.
Mono-Culture Risk: None; Not Frequently Planted
Invasive Risk: Low to Moderate
