Description: This medium sized maple fits easily into smaller lots, adding the vibrant colors and elegant shape of beloved larger maples, in a smaller package. The Trident Maple features shiny leaves with three lobes and a smooth edge, resembling small tridents. In the fall the leaves turn from a glossy deep green, to a wild mix of vibrant red, orange and yellows. The grey-brown trunk will exfoliate as it matures, revealing orange hues underneath. Small greenish yellow flowers bloom in the spring and is pollinator friendly. These trees are so pretty and interesting to look at, they are often used as Bonsai trees. Everything you love about big maple trees, in a compact size.
Growing Considerations: This is a fairly tough tree, and makes a great street tree. It’s urban tolerant, handling heat and pollution well, but make sure to keep it watered during Nashville’s long, hot summers. They like well drained, moist and slightly acidic soil.
